I studied Dutch level C1 and French level A2 with Gerlinde. My biggest issue was that I did not feel comfortable to speak, and I had a hard time understanding spoken Dutch, so we practiced a lot having conversations. After one year, I now feel comfortable to speak in Dutch on the street, city hall or performing any kind of simple tasks in Dutch. I also start to understand my colleagues and be able to follow what is being said in meetings. For French it was different because I spoke almost zero and had to learn from scratch grammar and vocabulary as well. After only a few months, I can already make basic conversations, explain myself and find my way in French. I am very satisfied with the classes, with her flexibility in my schedule, and I intend to continue learning at least for one more year.

Gerlinde Vanderstraeten
I live in French-speaking Belgium, Wallonia. French is my second language (my mother tongue is Dutch). I have studied French since I was nine years old. I also specialized in modern languages, including French, at secondary school in Brussels. I lived, studied and worked in Brussels for most of my young life. This brought me into contact with the French language very quickly. My holidays in a family chalet in the Ardennes also facilitated my knowledge of French.
I currently live with my family in Wallonia and speak French on a daily basis.
I already taught French at Fedasil Herbeumont and in Dutch-speaking education in Brussels.
